Chapter 10. ECL/HSSI

INTERFACE

This section describes the plug-in ECL/HSSI Data Interface used with the SDM-2020

Demodulator.

10.1 ECL/HSSI Interface (PL/5806-3)

IMPORTANT

The ECL/HSSI interfaces for the Modulator (PL/5806-2) and

Demodulator (PL/5806-3) are not interchangeable.

The ECL/HSSI interface is compliant with TIA/EIA-612 and -613. It operates from a

-5 VDC supply and is compatible with routers that support the HSSI interface. The

interface has functional signals similar to a serial EIA-422 interface but operates at much

higher data rates. The connector is a 50 pin female SCSI-2 type and includes the open

collector fault lines for reporting a failure to external equipment like a redundancy

switch.

The -1 interface is used for the modulator and the -2 for the demodulator. The interface is

not interchangeable between the modulator and demodulator.
